The Imminent Waves of AI's Impact
Kung Chan

There has been much talk about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for many years, but when its impacts are really felt, it will still send major shock waves to the world. Historically, search engines like Yahoo, Google, and its imitator Baidu have sprung up based on databases. Now, due to the rise of the digital content industry, there is tremendous pressure on the technological progress of search engines, the inclusion of AI in them will be imperative and indeed has finally become the general trend. Such is the case of OpenAI and the Chat GPT based on it which has now become the next big thing. AI is now moving the world.

Chat GPT has just been launched for only a few months, in November 2022. In less than 5 days, more than one million people with foresight rushed to register to use it. Why is this new explosion in technology software so popular? It is really just a chatbot tool developed by the OpenAI team, an AI research lab based in San Francisco, California, where Tesla's founder Elon Musk is also its co-founder, though everyone knows how busy Musk is now, so he does not participate in the daily management and decision-making of OpenAI.

GPT stands for generative pre-trained transformer. It appears that code-writers prefer to use certain nouns and adjectives that describe some functions, yet quite often they fail to express the meaning completely, hence many ostensibly profound and inexplicable words are born from this. In fact, as stated earlier, GPT is a chatbot tool. Since it can complete the seemingly omnipotent work through "dialogue" with people, there is an artificial intelligence foundation behind it, as it can automatically generate natural language that humans can understand through deep learning. One of the specific surprising breakthroughs is the generation of natural language. This was very difficult in the past, but because Chat GPT is built on the basis of OpenAI, it can rely on massive amounts of readily available high-quality data. It not only understands the natural language but also expresses with it. This is the best part of Chat GPT.

AI chatbot has actually been existing for a long time. In 2016, large companies such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, etc., had similar tools open for everyone to use. iPhone's SIRI is a well-known example, for instance. However, in the eyes of technologists, these AI stuffs are child's play compared with Chat GPT.

There are those who use Chat GPT to help them in the investment of stocks, and it is rumored that they made a lot of money. Some use it to automatically operate EXCEL, said to be 10 times more effective. More and more people are using it to write articles, love letters, and even poems. Chat GPT can automatically write programs, that people do not even need to do programming in the future. Through the "conversation" with it, some people actually just want to get a spark of ideas and creativity, and they might obtain some unexpected results. For those who want to write a song too, this will be effortless. All of these tasks performed by it have far exceeded the past AI technologies of Google, Microsoft, and Apple. Hence, it is not surprising that Google, Microsoft, and other large companies have suddenly laid off employees.

Chat GPT is sometimes touted as the destroyer of programmers and the terminator of search engines, which is true to a certain extent. The integration of AI, natural language, and neural network technologies is indeed an intergenerational leap compared with traditional retrieval technologies based on databases. It is, all in all, an intelligent application tool for all digital content. Compares to Chat GPT, Microsoft Office is only equivalent to an app, not a platform. Although Google was quite powerful in the past, and those who worked at Google prided themselves to be in it, yet with the advent of Chat GPT, Google's power is history. Google is indeed very big, but that's only because there are people who keep patching its flaws, and it still fails to achieve the real core leap in the breakthrough of intergenerational tools. Therefore, now Google is also facing the problem of being eliminated. Recently, Google not only laid off 12,000 employees but also invited the founders back to hold meetings together to discuss future countermeasures.

While it is often repeated that "AI changes everything", the actual big turning point is now imminent, and its strength and scope will shock everyone. For us at ANBOUND who specialize in researching trends, we are very happy to see the success of Chat GPT, because its appearance fully meets our key definition of future-type computers a few years ago, and we believe that it truly represents the future of notebook computer products. It will soon appear that some of those once-familiar brands, such as Microsoft, IBM, Lenovo, Apple, Samsung, etc., will completely disappear because they have not caught up with the train of AI.

Facing the impact of AI, it would be a bit of an exaggeration to say that all industries will collapse. That being said, it is a clear technological trend most industries will be redefined, and the status of industry leaders will be subverted and changed while businesses undergo major reshuffles. Future products and commodities must be super-intelligent and equipped with a new AI system in addition to their original product structure and system. This will form a new framework that in turn, will create a new generation of products and systems. To put it simply, in the beginning, the product will be made as smart as humans; and later, the product should be made smarter than that.

What then, can humans do in the future? A simple answer to this question is that the main role of humans in the future world of AI is to make decisions. In other words, humans have to define information analysis. The questions of "what to do" and "why to do it" are decided by humans, while "how to do it" and "how to do it better" are left to AI. As it stands, we must become the high-level organism that defines rather than the low-level organism that operates in the ecological system in which AI is highly involved in the future.

Final analysis conclusion:

The huge impact of AI on human society is imminent. In an environment where AI is highly involved and even shaped by it, we may need to redefine both what humans should do, and what AI should do.
