Guerilla Warfare: Ukraine's Only Option?
Kung Chan

How can Ukraine prepare for a long battle? This is something in the mind of most Ukrainians. The Ukrainian youths today belonged to the generation that grew up in freedom, therefore this war matters to them and millions of their compatriots. Many believe that if they have enough HIMARS and heavy weapons, victory will be theirs.

Unfortunately, this is not possible.

Even if all Western countries added together, they are still unable to provide what is needed by Ukraine. There are only 76 CAESAR howitzers in France, and it is said that France is going to give 12 of them to Ukraine. Germany has the fourth-largest GDP in the world, yet it has not even given a single tank to Ukraine, indeed it opposes other nations to do so as well. This is the result of the post-Cold War "peaceful development" and the severe consequences of the "disarmament" of the West. Understandably, Ukraine is frustrated, since the West cannot supply what it wants. The Ukrainians wish to fight on and regain their own territories, but Europe demands peace to continue its "peaceful development".

The elites of the American Democratic Party are indeed proud of having a transatlantic political alliance, yet while they were the top graduates from Ivy League universities, most of them are known to lack the ability to successfully handle policies. This was true in Afghanistan, as it remains true in Ukraine today. The actual situation now is that within the so-called Western alliance, the war funds provided to Russia in the hundred days of war were as high as 93 billion euros, far exceeding the support provided by Europe to Ukraine. The "left hand" of the West, the symbol of its own interests, is in a fierce fight with its "right hand" that represents its values. This alliance will not be able to possess real power. These elites of the American Democratic Party have seriously underestimated the reality of this rupture. The war is still ongoing, and the European countries seem to have almost forgotten who is Antony Blinken.

What will happen when Ukraine loses support from the West?

The answer is that Ukraine has to do the only thing it can do on its own, and that is guerrilla warfare. In other words, it has to sacrifice the lives of its young people to battle its enemies on railway lines, in trenches, in the dark, or in the jungles and fields. It will have to exchange the lives of its own people to fight an attrition war. Ukraine has no weapons; it only has blood, and this is the reality of war.

This is by no means a sensational statement. The phrase “I have noticed a drop in media attention on this war” has now appeared more and more in the mouths of those who study the war in Ukraine. This is no good news, all it means is that Ukraine will face a choice, whether to sue for peace or fight to the end without support. If Ukraine is not able to become a "fighting machine" for the Western alliance then its people will have to be like Vietnamese fighters in the past who were not afraid of sacrificing themselves. Or, the last alternative for Ukraine is to accept peace talks and surrender.

I am uncertain what Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz, and the like can talk about in Ukraine. Perhaps they might just admit frankly to Volodymyr Zelenskyy that they are incapable of doing anything, and that the democracy, freedom, and justice they advocated in the past are pointless. Maybe they will just request Zelenskyy to face the reality and accept Vladimir Putin's conditions, while continuing pumping cash to Putin so the supply of oil and gas would not be interrupted. Of course, they might just give Ukraine some trinkets, like bullet-proof vests and grenades or a few artilleries, just for show. Nothing, of course, will be serious, and they might still want Ukraine to negotiate for “peace” with Putin.

The reality is cruel, what other choice do Ukrainians have before these capitalist politicians? If Zelenskyy really wants to continue fighting, he must send the current batch of those beautiful Ukrainian youths to the battlefield, turning them into Che Guevaras, or Vietnamese guerilla fighters, so to speak. He will need a large number of Che Guevaras, who not only know how to fight, but are also able to create cultural impacts not only on Europe, but on the whole world as well.

Other than this, sadly, Ukraine has no other option.
