Shanghai bureaus of China Media Group start operation
China Plus

China Media Group (CMG), China's state radio and television broadcaster, opened its first municipal bureau on Thursday in China's financial hub, Shanghai. It adjoins the broadcaster's first regional bureau: the Yangtze River Delta Regional Bureau.

The 265,000-square-meter hub will support the organization's local operations, as well as the production of sports content and film production. The new bureaus will become an international film and television production base and cultural innovation center for CMG. The new bureaus will also support CMG's copyright management and translation services.

CMG's new Shanghai hub will also build on the work done by the organization's Media Lab, which opened in Shanghai in May. The Media Lab is focused on the application of 5G networking, 4K broadcasting, and artificial intelligence technology to the media industry.

In 2018, China's President Xi Jinping called on CMG to build a new world-class mainstream media organization, Shen Haixiong, the president of CMG, said at the opening ceremony for the new bureaus. "The establishment of the two new bureaus is a concrete step towards implementing President Xi's proposal," said Shen.
