Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday issued a five-year road map for bilateral cooperation in security and infrastructure development.

Under the road map through 2023, the two countries will also work together on space, cyberspace and environmental issues.

At the meeting, Abe referred to the Group of 20 (G20) summit and stressed the importance for the international community to unite and issue strong messages, adding that he was keen to take the lead in discussions at the summit by closely working with Macron.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their cooperation toward the success of the two-day G20 summit in Osaka from Friday, during which issues ranging from marine plastic waste to reforms at the World Trade Organization are set to be on the agenda.
