TikTok tops Google Play in India after ban lift
China Plus

Chinese social media platform TikTok now ranks first on the top free list of India’s Google Play, just a week after ban on the site was lifted by Google, reports Chinanews.com.

TikTok was pulled from app stores in India in April over claims it made children vulnerable to pornographic and other inappropriate content. It was available for download again on April 30 after winning a court fight.

The app has since introduced 13 security measures, including a risk alarm system, addiction prevention system and sensitive words filter, according to staff from TikTok.

Staff says TikTok has recruited nearly 500 employees in India and will offer more services customized to local users.

Globally, TikTok was the third most downloaded app during Q1 2019, following Facebook's WhatsApp and Messenger. According to data analysis firm Sensor Tower, TikTok has been installed by more than 1.1 billion users globally, 88 million from India. It is now available in 150 countries and regions.
