Chinese Vice Premier Liu He will visit the U.S. from May 9 to 10 for the 11th round of high-level trade talks, a spokesperson with China's Ministry of Commerce said on Tuesday. Liu was invited by U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

"China's team is preparing to go to the United States for the new round of high-level economic and trade consultations," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular press briefing on May 6.

Geng made the response after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would raise tariffs on 200 billion U.S. dollars' worth of Chinese goods this week.

"China hopes the trade talks can achieve positive progress, and that the two countries meet each other half way to get the benefits of the two countries and the expectation of the international community," added Geng.

"We hope China and the U.S. achieve a mutually beneficial agreement based on mutual respect," noted Geng.
