Shanghai's Stampede Reflected Chinese Urban Management Defect
ANBOUND

36 people were killed and 49 people were injured in the stampede happened on New Year's Eve in Bund, Shanghai. While we are mourning over this tragedy, it should stimulate contemplation of all spheres in China. Chinese economy is developing rapidly and city hardware is expanding, China is lagging far behind in the aspect of "software" of city management. For urban managers who are used to develop economy, how to manage a city is a totally new field. How to coordinate various sectors, such as transportation, travel, culture, media, safety, community precaution and early warning and monitoring, so as to genuinely improve a people-oriented city? City administrators need to recognize its gap with its international counterparts in this regard and seriously sort out their thinking.
