Western China's development strategy has been implemented for twelve years and scored a lot of economic achievements. However, the initial target of comprehensive development strategy has been evolved into sole economic development and urbanization expansion model. Given the fragile environment and ecology of the western China, it is not possible to bear the large-scale economic activities and urbanization expansion. If western China simply imitated the development model from the eastern provinces, no doubt there will be serious ecological disasters that threaten the local economic and social sustainability. In recent years, the large number of projects and efforts in promoting urbanization in the western provinces is rather worrisome. Therefore, it is essential to rectify the development strategy for western China.
