U.S. Focuses More on U.S.-North Korea Talk, Not on China-U.S. Trade
ANBOUND
In
the early morning of May 14, the U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that, 'President
Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company,
ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast'. This tweet has excited the Chinese
society and even stimulated the capital market. However, it does not seem
necessary for China to be over-excited about the changes of the fate of ZTE.
First, the outcome of the China-U.S. trade negotiations remains uncertain, and there
are variables in the ZTE incident; second, the U.S. government's current
attention is focused on the U.S.-North Korea talks. When this major event is
over, it can be seen whether the ZTE incident has really eased.
