Changes in China's population movements signify changes in the country's economic structure
ANBOUND
Anbound researchers suggest that the large-scale movement of domestic population in China since the reform and opening-up can be divided to three types. The first type of population movement is from the west to the east, that is from the inner part of China to the coastal areas of southeast to involve in the manufacturing industry; this type of movement shows typical characteristics of industrialization. The second type is centered around major and super-large cities in every area, which means that rural populations moving to urban areas, and populations from smaller towns flowing to larger cities. The third type changes from the previous movement from the west to the east, to moving from the north to the south. Such changes in population movements reflect the changes in Chinese regional economic structure; this also indicates that the economic differences between the north and the south are increasing.
