On environmental refugees
ANBOUND
Statistics from United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security in 2016 shows that there are currently at least 200 million "environmental refugees" in the world, which is higher than the number of refugees caused by war and political factors. However, this figure does not include people forced to abandon their homes due to drought or environmental degradation. A Norwegian institute estimates that 23.5 million people fled their homes in 2016 due to climate disasters like storms, floods, and wildfires. The figure in China must also be very alarming, though accurate statistics is currently unavailable.
