Strategic Planning for the Future of China's Three Northeastern Provinces

ANBOUND Strategic Research Report: Strategic Planning for the Future of
China's Three Northeastern Provinces
by Kung Chan (ANBOUND's founder)
Over
the past two decades, there have been attempts to revitalize and
reindustrialize China's three northeastern provinces
of Liaoning, Heilongjiang, and Jilin to reignite a new wave of
large-scale industrial prosperity on their aging industrial foundation. The long-term tracking
research and fieldwork conducted by ANBOUND show that the three northeastern provinces can no longer be considered China's industrial
engine. Instead, ANBOUND proposes that within China's future territorial and
spatial configuration, the region must be redefined within the country's
overarching macro framework. In the post-industrial era, it should become one
of the nation's most important spaces for land conservation, a base for
ecological restoration, and a testing ground for low-density forms of living environment.
