China's Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) spokesperson Pan Xianzheng said recently that only genetically modified (GM) cotton and papaya have been approved for commercial production in China and no other staple GM food has been approved. Anbound has previously pointed out that the issue of GM is not a minor problem and is a major issue related to the development of human society in the future. For China, some basic principles and starting points in the issue of GM should be determined so as to protect the public’s health and freedom of choice without hindering the development of technology and commercial interests.
