Red Banner River Project should consider factors that affect China
ANBOUND
The research on the "Red Banner River Project" has drawn much attention of some scholars. The project is a huge water diversion project in Western China with a total length of 6188 kilometers and the drop of 1258 meters. It is estimated that the total annual water transfer will amount to 60 billion cubic meters. If one looks from merely the technical point of view, such project is feasible. However, it is even more important to consider that if such a large-scale water diversion is to be carried out in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the most drastic changes will occur in China's political, economic, cultural, demographic, climate, ecological and social development strategies.
