The new airport in Beijing is 50-60 km away from the urban area. In the long term (2040), the passenger traffic will be 100 million. The aircraft movements will reach 800,000 and 7 runways and terminals of 1.4 million square meters will be constructed; the planned investment will cost RMB 80 billion (approximately US$ 12.6 billion). In comparison, the Atlanta Airport is about 11 kilometers from the city center; with more than 80 million passenger trips in 2006, it reached 104 million in 2017 with a total cost of US$ 9 billion (approximately RMB 56.7 billion). Its overall efficiency is higher than the new airport in Beijing.
