Low Effectiveness of Chinese Social Wealth
ANBOUND

China has a long history of 5000 years. Despite this, very few Chinese buildings in the urban areas have a history of more than 50 years. Many old buildings are torn down after being utilized for merely 20 to 30 years. In developed nations, the average service life for these buildings is much longer. For example, the buildings' average service life in the UK, France and the U.S. are 132 years, 85 years and 80 years respectively. This shows that the effectiveness of Chinese social wealth is much lower than that of the developed countries. Various reasons such as changes to urban planning, short-term interests drive and GDP-oriented political accomplishments evaluation mechanism, directly lead to the shortened life of Chinese urban buildings.
