Hebei Provincial Government recently issued a circular to cancel the provincial development qualification of the western zone of Thangshan Lutai Economic and Technological Development Zone. This is the first provincial-level development zone in the country to be revoked for not completing the governing tasks under the Action Plan for Prevention and Treatment of Water Pollution. This means that environmental regulation in industrial clusters is getting more and more stringent. Both industrial parks and enterprises should not take chances with discharging pollutants and with meeting emission standards. With the tightening of environmental regulation, there will be more industrial development zones perish from harsher environmental protection laws.
