Iceland becomes the first European country to sign Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China. The move is highly significant as it is beneficial to the bilateral trade and investment besides strengthening China's influence over the Northern Hemisphere. A Chinese expert stated that China probably starts using the North Hemisphere shipping route by 2020 as it can reduce 40% of the shipping cost.
