On the afternoon of August 22, 2024, Grace Moon, Director of the Beijing Representative Office of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), visited the independent think tank ANBOUND. Both KOTRA Beijing Research Manager Heehyun Sung and Lead Analyst ShengAai Jin attended the meeting.
ANBOUND's participants joined this discussion, including ANBOUND's founder Kung Chan, Head of Global Development Program Yi Wang, Executive VP Zhaoxi Wang, and Zhou Chao, Research Fellow for Geopolitical Strategy programme at ANBOUND.
At the beginning, Ms Yi Wang expressed a warm welcome the KOTRA Beijing Representatives to ANBOUND's Office in Beijing E-Town. She briefly introduced the past communications between ANBOUND teams with Korean government officials, business leaders as well as academia circle. ANBOUND looks forward to more policy dialogue and research discussions through working with KOTRA, promoting China-Korea mutual trade and investment, and jointly contributing to future sustainable development.
Director Moon introduced the latest developments at KOTRA and outlined the agency's efforts to promote exchanges between South Korea and China. She noted that Korean companies are keen to explore new business opportunities in China's vast market and are also interested in pursuing mutual economic cooperation in third-party markets.
During the discussion, Mr. Chan demonstrated the latest research by ANBOUND, engaging in geopolitical, economic and strategic topics. He expressed his opinions on international and domestic hotspots, e.g. supply chain security and trade policy, the US presidential election, close production model for global investment, Chinese market and consumption trends, the prospects for industrial cooperation and competition between South Korea and China. Straightforwardly, he said that South Korea would play the role of "Giant" (자이언트) , which is able to actively provide future solutions in either Asian and world affairs.
Finally, Mr. Zhaoxi Wang led the KOTRA Beijing team on a tour of the ANBOUND office, providing an overview of the company's operations and organizational structure.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea's national trade and investment promotion organization established in 1962, contributes to the development of the national economy by performing work such as trade promotion, investment between domestic and foreign companies and support of industrial technology cooperation etc. KOTRA has facilitated cooperation with Korea for international trade, foreign investment, business and consulting services by utilizing global network of 127 overseas offices in 84 countries.
