Israel is now changing the nature of warfare, and like Ukraine, it is innovating the way of waging wars. As it stands, it has launched an unprecedented "assassination warfare”.
Notably, Israel is not engaging in conventional means that aim to disrupt command structures and render the enemy's military ineffective. Instead, the current Israeli military strategy involves mobilizing and integrating all available military and intelligence resources to conduct a comprehensive "assassination warfare”. This strategy targets all high-level Hezbollah and Hamas leaders, to eliminate their military and political leadership groups, thereby forcing them into underground operations and preventing them from making their leaders public.
The results of this "assassination warfare" have been striking. Israel's integrated systems have reportedly eliminated over a dozen known Hezbollah and Hamas leaders in less than two weeks.
From an analytical perspective, this "assassination warfare" can be understood as an expanded form of precision strikes. Its strategic design is focused on the spiritual and military leaders within the mass movements. Since mass movements require spiritual leaders to maintain their coherence that otherwise they devolve into mere rabble, Israel’s long-term tracking and intelligence advantages allow it to target these key leaders, aiming to avoid civilian casualties while attempting to dismantle the organizational and military frameworks of the religious mass movements.
In theory, this new form of "assassination warfare" could prove effective. Much like ancient warfare, where victory was determined by duels between great generals rather than the slaughter of large armies, this approach could reduce casualties while still significantly impacting the outcome.
