Exiting from UNESCO shows US is retreating from global governance
ANBOUND
On 12 October, according to French media, the United States declared its re-exit from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The last time when this happened was in 1984. This has an important symbolic significance, showing the Trump administration's attitude of further withdrawing from the international affairs, which from another side reflects the "America First" strategy. However, the United States’ withdraw from a long-standing institution like UNESCO is detrimental to the involvement of the United States in global affairs, and the United States is retreating from global governance step by step.
