Nazir Razak, the Malaysian CIMB Group Holdings chairperson and brother of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, has reported to call for the Malaysian government's scrutiny on the China-led investments under the Belt & Road Initiative, particularly on the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project, though it is unlikely for the Malaysian government to heed his opinion. There have been voices in Malaysia that use the Chinese investment issues to attack their political opponents; Chinese enterprises in Malaysia need to pay attention on this matter, and should improve their corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, as well as respect the local culture and customs.
