China should see characteristic towns from macro perspective
ANBOUND
As the National Development and Reform Commission is promoting China's characteristics town's establishment and evaluation mechanism, this has led to the boom of the establishment of such towns; but Anbound’s chief researcher Chan Kung pointed out that if one only looks at the micro-level of the establishment of these towns, it will be rather limited. From a macro point of view, this is undoubtedly a kind of anti-urbanization, and will have inevitable impact on urban society and the economy, such as talent backflow, population backflow, and investment scattering in the vast rural areas. However, China's problems are often the problems of rural areas, farmers and agriculture. To build these characteristic towns, China should view this from both of the urban and rural perspective to understand the problem.
