Reform focus in China in 2017
ANBOUND
From 26 to 27 this April, a conference was held in Beijing on the national economic system reform work. The Conference emphasizes on the five major tasks of cutting excessive industrial capacity, de-capacity, de-leveraging, lowering corporate costs and improving weak links. In fact, this conference can be seen as an internal meeting of China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Anbound believes that it could be too limited if China’s systemic economic system reform is only driven by NDRC. The NDRC is more focused on the short-term tasks and objectives to be completed; but from the perspective of fundamental goal of reform, China needs to focus on long-term, focusing on the establishment of market-oriented mechanism, and achieving economic reform objectives through structural reform. The structural reform of the supply-side cannot be reduced to the supply-side reform, and it cannot be with the five major tasks; it is a long-term structural reform, and its basis must be market-oriented.
