Beijing city planning from the view of common people
ANBOUND

On April 2017, Beijing city government rolled out the masterplan (2016-2030) for the city, and seek for views of the general public at the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall. Recently, an "unofficial masterplan", written by a resident of Beijing has become viral online. This “masterplan” is easy to understand, but points out clearly the shortcomings of Beijing's years of city planning and development. We believe that this “unofficial masterplan” is Beijing city planning from the view of the common people. The content of this “masterplan” is in fact, common sense for people-oriented city and the reason why cities come to existence. From the practical experience of the city development in China, this common knowledge is readily understood by the common people and the experts, yet not by the government, therefore this “common sense” will not be part of the development plan. The reason appears to be the lack of knowledge and the interest involved.
