ANBOUND's Observation: U.S. Democrat Students Refused to Date Republicans
Chan Kung

It appears that romance and politics are inseparable. A recent research in the United States shows that among college students who support the Democratic Party, more than 70% were unwilling to date someone who voted for former U.S. President Donald Trump. However, young Republican supporters were less concerned about political ideas. Only 30% said they would not date those who voted for President Joe Biden.

In the poll jointly conducted by news website Axios and Generation Lab, 850 college students from November 18 to 22 were asked if they were willing to date or make friends with those who voted the opposing presidential candidates. The result shows that those who support the Democratic Party would be far more concerned about political ideas than those who support the Republican Party.

When it comes to jobs and businesses, 30% of Democratic supporters are unwilling to work with the supporters of the Republican Party, while the proportion of Republican supporters on this issue is 7%. When asked if they were willing to make friends with people of the other party, 37% of Democrats did not want to be friends with the Republican Party, but only 5% of Republican voters rejected to be the friends of Democratic supporters. In addition, 41% of Democratic voters would not buy things in Republican shops, while only 7% of Republican supporters would not support Democratic businesses. Love and romance wise, as many as 71% of Democrats would not date the Republicans, and Republicans have a more obvious negative attitude on this topic, with 31% of them would not date Democrats.

The results of further analysis showed that Democratic supporters expressed strong positions on human rights issues such as abortion, LGBTQ and immigrants. They also believed that since the Republican Party was led by Trump, many values have deviated from mainstream public opinion. Therefore, in this poll, they rejected the Republicans., and they were more keen to express their opinions than their Republican counterparts. What is surprising is that in the past, men were more often regarded as political enthusiasts, but this poll shows that women are more likely to incorporate partisan stances into their personal choices.
