Deterioration of DPRK and Malaysia relations trigger new geopolitical risks
ANBOUND
As Kim Jong-nam was allegedly assassinated in Malaysia, the relationship between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is rapidly deteriorating. Following the DPRK Foreign Ministry's expulsion of the Malaysian ambassador to Korea, the Malaysian side also announced the expulsion of North Korean ambassador Kang Chol. Subsequently, the DPRK announced that it would temporarily ban Malaysian citizens from leaving the country. In response, Malaysia immediately announced the prohibition of the departure of all DPRK citizens in Malaysia until the safety of all Malaysian citizens in Korea is confirmed. It is important to point out that the deterioration of the diplomatic relations between North Korea and Malaysia is likely to trigger new geopolitical risks. As DPRK suddenly take severe actions, the risks in North Korea are increasing tremendously, China's relevant institutions and business personnel need to pay attention on this issue and devise proper risk management plans.
