Banking industry will be tightly regulated
ANBOUND
2017 is likely to be China's most severe "comprehensive financial supervision year" in the financial history. After the securities and insurance sectors being reorganized, what would be the next one to carry out the rectification? We think it will be the banking sector. Compared with the securities and the insurance sectors, China's banking industry seems to be much calmer, but some risk factors are accumulating. To put it in a nicer way, "the ability of the banking industry to serve the real economy and the quality needs to be upgraded," and in a less nice way, the banking industry has hidden systematic bias in its support of the economic development. All this has put forward higher demands on future banking regulation. In the past, the regulation of the banking industry was mainly to avoid the occurrence of risk events. In the future, China’s banking industry will face "developmental regulation", that is to adjust the development of the banking industry so as to make it more effective to serve the national economy.
