According to the statistics published by National Bureau of Statistics, in 2016, China's summer grain production was 139.26 million tons, a decrease of 162.1 tons or 1.2% compared to 2015.
However, the research team at ANBOUND Consulting suggests that the decrease in the summer grain production does not necessarily have a significant impact on the annual grain production, let alone affecting China’s food security.
Firstly, the proportion of the summer grain production is not significant as it only accounts for about 20% of the total grain production.
Secondly, the output of food crops has continued to rise in recent years, resulted in excess stock piles that are not of high quality.
In this case, even if the total grain output in 2016 decreased slightly, it will not affect China's food security.
