It is reported that during the 13th Five-year period, China will focus on the construction of major water conservancy and hydropower projects which are mainly located at the middle and lower reaches of Nu river, the upper reaches of Jinsha river and Yellow river, with installed capacity of 22 million kilowatts.

Obviously, the flip-flop in the decision on the development of hydropower plants on Nu river is a result of the battle between the interested parties.

As an independent think tank, ANBOUND has been objecting the large scale hydropower cascade development.

It is reported that for the past 13 years, the hydropower project on the Nu river has been developed quietly and the preliminary works such as the building of basic infrastructures, relocation and resettlement of residents have been carried out secretly.

In fact this is a false start that intends to force the government into accepting it.

ANBOUND's research team suggests that the relevant departments should stop the Nu river cascade hydropower project immediately, to force through the project, China will forever be subject to public opprobrium.
