China's Medical Reform Cannot Be Entirely Market-Orientated
ANBOUND

During the Labour Day long weekend, Baidu has once again come under fire following the death of a young man called Wei Zexi.

ANBOUND's research team is, however, of the view that the key problem of this incident does not lie with Baidu but rather the medical reform in China and the medical market itself.

The medical service is China should first be defined as quasi-public service available for most people and it should never be entirely market-orientated.

Based on the principle of quasi-public service, Chinese government should divide the medical services into two major areas: -

(i)A national healthcare system controlled by the government through public hospitals with basic, corresponding medical system; and

(ii)A moderately market-oriented high-end healthcare system.
