China Should Legislate and Disclose Statistical Data For Free
ANBOUND

Recently, National Bureau of Statistics revealed a number of problems in its statistical system.

In fact, China's official statistics have often come under fire not only because of its limited accuracy but also, many statistics funded by public revenue are not available freely to the public but come at a price.

ANBOUND’s research team is of the view that in addition to effort to eradicate graft, there is another far more important task for the National Bureau of Statistics, which is public disclosure of statistical data and set the relevant governing rules.

In China, many data that are supposed to be available to the public has become privy to a small group of people and sold by different institutions.

In fact, the transparency and the availability of data is a very good observation window to decide whether a country is developed or not.

China should do more to catch up on its statistical system and developed countries like United States and Japan should be used as the benchmark.
