Pollution In Changzhou School and the Shortcomings In Protecting Residents' Livelihood and Security
ANBOUND

The state news media, China Central Televisions revealed that nearly 500 students at a school in Changzhou, Suzhou had developed illness and the contaminants found at the school exceeded the national standard by nearly ten thousand times, it is reported that source of the pollution was a former industrial site north of the school, which were formerly occupied by three chemical plants and it is suspected that the pollution was caused by the toxic waste buried underneath.

ANBOUND's research team is of the view that this reflects the serious problems in China – the lack of corporate integrity, the government has been derelict in enforcing regulation and the issues concerning the wellbeing and the safety of the children and teenagers are not taken seriously.

This combined with Shandong vaccine scandal show that the whole China is entangled by this kind of problem.

The government should strengthen the public awareness on livelihood and security issues, this is a basic responsibility that should be shouldered by the society as a whole especially when the nation is the process of changing its development concept and development model.
