ANBOUND's scholar points out that the China should revise its strategy when dealing with the problems caused by North Korea.
Possession of nuclear weapons has already become a fundamental national policy for North Korea and the United States is the root cause of this situation.
North Korea does not pose any real threat to the United States, hence, the United States is not keen to deal with North Korea’s nuclear ambitions but instead, the United States raises a rumpus and used the North Korea problem against China.
As North Korea’s neighbor, China will not allow unrest in North Korea as this will cause massive influx of refugees into the northeastern region in China.
Therefore, the sanctions against North Korea have to be appropriate, it has to be targeted strongly and it should not affect the everyday life of the North Korean.
Meanwhile, China should engage with the foreign medias and convey the message to the general public in a language that they understand. The general public should be made aware that China has requested the United States to negotiate with North Korea and to address the security concerns caused by North Korea.
Even if the United States does not agree to this request, China still has to explain to the international community that the conflicts between China and the United States and makes it clear that it is United States who has deliberately provoked the North Korea and worsening the security situation in Northeast Asia.
The very least that China should do is to reverse its passive approach to public opinion.
