ANBOUND: The Changes in China's Middle East Policy
ANBOUND
Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran from 19t, h January to 23rd January, marking the entry of China into the pivot countries in Middle East and this has significant meaning in term of China's involvement in Middle East.
In this regard, ANBOUND’s research team is of the view that this visit might mean there will be certain adjustments to China’s Middle East policy and it is expected that China will play a more active role in Middle East’s affairs.
But given the complexity of the Middle East’s affairs and having considered China’s capability, China will still focus on fostering trade and investment ties with Middle East and it is inappropriate to set "greater say in global governance" as its short-term goal.
