China and Taiwan Leaders Set For Summit – the Historic Breakthrough
ANBOUND
The top leaders from China and Taiwan, namely Xijinping and Ma Ying-jeou will meet on 7th November in Singapore.
Anbound's research team is of the view that, by comparison, the summit might have a bigger meaning to China. This is because, first and foremost, this marks the historic breakthrough, reflecting China’s capability and creativity in dealing the cross-strait issue. Secondly, the consultation and communication between China and Taiwan will now be pushed onto a new track. Thirdly, as China currently facing immense pressure from issues such as TPP, South China Sea conflict, ASEAN, US- Asia Pacific rebalancing strategy, the breakthrough in China-Taiwan relations have huge significance politically.
