On July 8, at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of then-U.S. National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger's historic visit to China, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan mentioned that the U.S. is largely responsible in the deterioration of U.S.-China relations, although he also urged the U.S. to manage differences and expand common interests.

Media reports require certain degree of analyses, accurate and objective analyses are still wanting. Concerning Wang's speech, while there are Chinese media reports covering it from narrative and prospect perspectives, there is neither objectivity nor trend analyses. Wang's speech certainly represents what China's central government intended to convey, hence the speech has little to do with Kissinger's visit to China. Rather, it will have a great impact on future U.S.-China relations. He in fact, put forward China's conditions, namely "return to normalcy", "manage differences", and "avoid misunderstanding and misjudgment". While reviewing the previous conditions, Wang actually posited China's attitude, which is the willingness to restore normal diplomatic relations with the United States. At least for China, it is still possible to talk about improving relations.

Of course, this is the current official position of China, but from the perspective of the United States, these conditions in China are unacceptable. In the end, the relations between the U.S. and China will be neither war nor peace.
