Certain crucial issues are considered to be global arenas
where there are competitions for dominance among major powers, until the emergence
of worldwide mechanisms and treaties. Three of such major issues that will be
decisive to the fate of the world in the future include:
1.
Global climate
While the discourse of this issue is mainly controlled by
the United States, there is no consensus reached internationally in tackling
climate problem. Although China has been working hard to make its voice heard,
it has yet to become a major influence factor.
2.
Cyber security.
Russia has shown its ambition of taking control in this
issue. Although the United States is one of the victims of cyber security, it
has yet to realize this is a global issue.
3.
International nuclear stability mechanism.
The United States and Russia are potential leaders in the
global arena of this issue. However, to reach an agreement on the world's nuclear
stability mechanism, even if it is absolutely necessary to be clear in the finer
points, it is still a daunting feat as there are differences of interests over
the nuclear issue among major stakeholders.
