He Jun: What Are The Implications of Indian and Pakistani Accession Into SCO?
ANBOUND
Pakistan and India are set to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ("SCO"). He Jun, the senior researcher at Anbound is of the view that the accession of Pakistan and India into SCO will bring some new influences. Firstly, it will increase the overall importance of SCO as a whole; however, the conflicts between India and Pakistan might be brought into SCO as well. Secondly, there will be more South Asian presence in SCO and the security issue in South Asia will become an agenda for SCO. Thirdly, this will help China to promote the development of Silk Road Economic Belt. Fourthly, there is a possibility that SCO might expand further in the future as the accession of India and Pakistan could inspire countries such as Afghanistan, Iran and Mongolia to join SCO.
