Kela Canal Issue Isn't China’s Strategic Move

It is reported that China and Thailand signed "Kela Canal" MOU in Guangzhou Province. However, in the opinion of ANBOUND research team, the construction of Kela Canal isn't China’s strategic move. Instead, it is probably a marketing method of a few companies. The reasons are as follows: First, if China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is successfully completed, the strategic importance of Kela Canal would be greatly reduced. Second, if America is able to blockade the Strait of Malacca, it is surely capable of blockading Kela Canal. Third, the economy and religions are quite different in South and North Thailand. Thus, it doesn’t want its territory to be divided
