US-China Carbon Emission Reduction Deal Sets Ceiling of Chinese Industrial Growth
ANBOUND
China and America are the two largest emitters of carbon in the world. On November 12th, the two countries made Joint Announcement on Climate Change. ANBOUND research team points out that the their agreement upon greenhouse gas reduction will set a ceiling for China's future industrial growth. America used to be reluctant to make promises about carbon emission reduction in the past. The willingness it shows this time must be due to the change of American energy pattern in recent years. American energy consumption is around peak value and shale gas reform has increased America’s energy self-sufficiency rate. Thus, America is now very detached when it comes to energy issues. China will surely face heavier pressure of carbon emission reduction than America in the future.
