Shuanghui International's acquisition of American company Smithfield has been plagued by new issue. According to the laws of at least eight states of the US, foreign investors are barred from possessing any land in these states. In the view of Anbound research team, this may decide the outcome of the Chinese company's acquisition. The Shuanghui International's case may be the example to all Chinese companies investing in agricultural sector overseas that such risks are real and prevalent.
