Coal Import Tariff Hike Contradicts with China's National Energy Strategy
ANBOUND
The Ministry of Finance declares that China will impose tariff for imported coal starting from the date of October 15th, with an aim to protect its domestic coal industry. ANBOUND think tank scholars point out that given China's resource scarcity, introducing energy import tariff due to the benefits of some departments will undoubtedly contradict the country’s national energy strategy. The energy industry, especially the coal industry, needs to have a clear insight of the future trend for energy consumption as well as the impact of commercial cycles. What’s more, it should adjust its operating strategies with a global view, and extend and expand its industrial chain to other energy fields. Policy makers should work out energy public policies from a strategic level and actively make breakthroughs in taxes and fees reform.
