He Jun: Why Does ANBOUND Adopt a Prudent View towards Bohai Cross-sea Channel
ANBOUND

The project of Bohai cross-sea channel becomes "hot" again recently. ANBOUND research team has always been employing a prudent attitude towards such projects which rely on enormous investments from government. ANBOUND's senior researcher He Jun considers that the main reasons for disfavoring the project are as follows: first, the crowding out effect will be obvious due to the large bulk of investment and long period of construction; second, the project is replaceable; third, neither the Shangdong Peninsula or Liaodong Peninsula is China’s economic centers and therefore the demands of economic dealings and population mobility are not intense; fourth, the key arguments to support the “Da-Yan Undersea Tunnel” are very weak; fifth, it will be equal to construct an artificial high risk strategic target in China’s east sea.
