Main Opnions

In 1984, his article Taking price reform as the center to drive the reform of the whole economic system first proposed and systematically demonstrated the idea of double track price reform, which was one of the most important articles in the 30-year reform history. As the first scholar who studied entrepreneurs in China, he first put forward the view that "learning from the best is business", and pointed out that the key to cultivate the entrepreneur team was the ownership reform. He studied the issue of income distribution and put forward the reform proposal of "introducing market mechanism into wage decision" for the first time. He demonstrated "the problem of capital employing labor" in his doctoral thesis The entrepreneur of enterprise - contract theory. His reform idea of "state-owned capital changes into creditor's rights, non-state-owned capital changes into equity" has aroused strong repercussions. In 2002, his exposition on the core competitiveness of Chinese enterprises, how to make them bigger, how to rebuild social trust and corporate reputation attracted unprecedented attention and discussion. In 2006, he published a long article Thinking about China's reform rationally, which pushed the debate on reform to a climax. In recent years, he was also committed to promoting the reform of China's university system, especially the reform of business school education system.

Controversy

Zhang Lin's dispute

In 2016, he and Lin Yifu, an economist, launched a fierce debate on industrial policy, which attracted national attention.

Lang Gu’s dispute

Zhang Weiying played an important role in the "battle of Lang Gu" in 2004. In his Thinking about China's reform rationally, he said that "officials are the most damaged interest groups in the reform", making him a "public enemy of the people" overnight.
