A well-known saying by him goes "papers are the core of the academy, while ideas are the core of policy.”

He has been a Council Member of the China Society of Economic Reform for a long time.

His highly strategic and forward-looking thoughts have received a lot of public attentions. In reality, he has even been considered a prophet-like legend in China.

Contribution

In the field of public policy research, Chan Kung has made many valuable contributions, and his observations and thoughts on public policy have often come ahead of those from Chinese academia and society. As early as the end of the last century, he brought up the issue of China's "post-land economy" and predicted that China's land economy that was in the full swing then was headed towards collapse.

He proposed the "Ideal City Model" and is also the proponent of the Social Risk Alert System as related to the rate of urbanization. He was also the pioneer researcher of China's Western Development Programme and "New Silk Road". His systematic research on both subjects has been published in 2008, and this research has since gradually evolved into the official policy.

He advocated China's version of the Marshall Plan, deeming that China's peaceful rising hinges on an international strategic thinking system and a practical direction in the new era. He is one of the first land power theory researches in the field of international geopolitics to encourage China to join the international arena, and he also proposed the policy solution of "New Silk Road Common Market". In relation to this, Chan Kung has authored Seventeen Days of Flight MH370 Lost (2015), Balance and Competition, Urbanization-the World Changer (2016), and other books to have demonstrated his analyses. He came up with the concept of the "crisis triangle" in his book, Urbanization-the World Changer, and was the first in the world to deconstruct the principle of capital surplus, an achievement considered to be a milestone in the field of development economics in China.

He wrote a paper "A Global Religious War is the Next Stage in the Clash of Civilizations" in 2015, , wherein he conducted a comprehensive and systematic analysis on international politics from the perspective of an organizational system, and insisted that the Chinese government reach an agreement with Vatican to achieve more stability.

He is also a productive writer, and lots of his articles appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the Washington Post, and other national and international interviews and quotations. His views are centered on economic reform, industry and urban issues.

Main Opnions

On the basis of the study of information analysis, Chan Kung made great achievements in the field of public policy research.

1. 'New Space Theory' in regards of geopolitics.

2. Thoughts of geo-capitalism and capital surplus in finance and industry.

3. Amid the first who forecasted trade conflicts between the US and China.

4. His principles of POD (a pattern of pedestrian oriented development) in the field of urban research is guiding the theoretical direction of urban renewal in China.

"From the perspective of public policy and information environment, if the government is the first channel, news or media would be the second channel, then think tanks would take the role as the third channel to exert great impacts on social environment. Think tanks not only play a role in public policy research, but also contribute to facilitating the improvement of public welfare. In today's world, upholding morality and justice (or 'daoyi 道义' in Chinese) is considered as a historical responsibility, a heavy burden with higher risks. Think tanks could not shirk this responsibility, and it is at least an explicit mission for those think tanks that are truly independent." — Chan Kung, Founder of ANBOUND.

Controversy

His proposal of utilizing common funds to reform State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) remains a focus in the study of governmental institutions and private sectors.
