Experience

In 1968, in response to the country's call to go down the mountain and to the countryside, he settled in the farm to the northeast.

He studied at Renmin University of China from 1978 to 1982. After graduating from university in 1982, he worked in the China Rural Development Research Group of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In July 1985, with the establishment of the China Rural Development Research Group, it was placed under the Rural Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Rural Development Research Center of the State Council [2]. In the meantime, his professional research fields included changes in the structure of the rural and national economy, the development of land systems and township and village enterprises. The main results include two books, several important papers, and the Sun Yefang Economics Award.

From 1989 to 1991, he visited the University of Oxford, the University of Colorado, and the University of Chicago. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles in the fall of 1991 and received his doctorate in economics.

During his tenure, he provided courses on economic organization and economic system, development economics, and new institutional economics for Peking University and Zhejiang University.

In 1997, he was named "the most popular teacher of Peking University".

Contribution

Zhou Qiren has always advocated real-world economics. With the patience and keenness of a hunter, he delves into real economic life and spares no effort to promote China's reform and development through academic research. He is a living fossil and drummer of China's reform. Through a paper and survey report, a media column, he provided important advice on China's telecommunications reform, medical reform, urbanization, rural land ownership and transfer, monetary policy and exchange rate, and state-owned enterprise reform.

Main Opnions

Zhou Qiren mainly looked at the currency issue from the perspective of mechanism and system. He believed that the 1994 People's Bank Law blocked the overdraft currency mechanism of fiscal overdraft to the central bank and laid the foundation for the stability of the value of RMB.

Controversy

Zhou supports free market theory. In some areas, his views have caused adverse consequences, but he has not seen his public reflection. For example, in the medical field, he publicly advocated the marketization of medical care, praising the government's withdrawal and private takeover of the Suqian Medical Reform. At that time, it had a considerable influence.
